"The Music & Entertainment Industries supporting Childrens Charities"

Golf Day 2008

The Golden Stave kicked off 30th Anniversary celebrations on Friday 14th March at the 17th Annual Golf fundraiser at the picturesque St Michaels golf course at Little Bay, raising over $50,000 to support children's charities in need.

12th Man cricket commentary impersonator Billy Birmingham, a keen golfer, was in fine form entertaining guests with hilarious anecdotes throughout the day on the course as well as being on the prize podium with his team mates from the Golden Stave at the end of the day. Australasian Long Drive Champion Mark 'Boomer' Bylsma, renowned for his 432 metre one shot hit at Riverside Oaks golf course was in his element hitting balls at a blinding speed keeping guests astonished at the distance travelled! Some golfing stories from the world golfing circuit were shared at Hole 8 where Mark was stationed to ensure everyone had the opportunity to have a hit with the Australasian Long Drive Champion and learn some key golfing pointers.

Golden Stave Golf Committee organiser Brian Harris was very pleased with the funds raised on the day. "This was our 17th Golf fundraiser and it was wonderful to see the fantastic support we receive from our ongoing sponsors in raising much needed funds for the kids the Golden Stave support. Having Australasian Long Drive Champion Mark 'Boomer' Blysma and Billy Birmingham give their valuable time to spend out on one of the great golf courses of the world with our sponsors was greatly appreciated by everyone involved. A thoroughly enjoyable day and a great result was achieved. It's a big year for the Golden Stave this year celebrating 30 years and it's fantastic to see $50,000 already raised to kick start the celebrations. A big thank you to all sponsors who provided prizes to winners on the day at the Awards function following the golf."
